Adelaide Kinstler

Adelaide Lucille (Avalon) (Greenfield) Kinstler passed away on December 12, 2015 at the home of her son and daughter in law at the age of 87. “Addie” was born in New York to Hector and Rose (Koppelman) Avalon on February 14, 1928 but was raised for a brief time in California and then was moved back to New York. After living in various locations in the southeast, she settled with her husband and famiiy in Savannah, Ga where she spent the rest of her life. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY. She then met and married her late husband, Arnold Leon Kinstler in 1948, after a two-week whirlwind romance and marriage proposal over the phone. She studied radiology technology and became an x-ray technician, and later she graduated from Memorial Medical Center’s School of Allied Health where she attended surgical technology classes and went to work as a surgical technician. She also volunteered at Savannah Crisis Hotline during part of her life. In addition to her love of science and reading, she was, in her youth, a tennis player, and an accomplished Equestrian. She loved riding in Prospect Park, English style, wearing her jodhpurs and hat. She enjoyed classical music and opera, loved to eat ice cream, and never missed a chance to attend a party or meet new people. She loved children and animals with a passion and wouldn’t stand seeing their mistreatment by anyone. She would never hesitate to speak her mind about this; actually, she never hesitated to speak her mind about anything. This was not a bad thing and she passed it on to all of her children. She had an acute sense of right and wrong, and knew who was good and who was bad. The bad she avoided or faced head on, the good she invited into her home and into her heart. Her dislike of cooking was notorious and she would rather make reservations for dinner. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years Arnold L. Kinstler with her by his side, parents Hector and Rose (Koppelman) Avalon Greenfield, her stepfather Sidney Greenfield, her sister Phyllis Greenfield Levine and her German shepherd, Sabre. She is survived by her children and their spouses Beth A. Kinstler; Ann K. and Michael Scott; Herbert P. and Ellen Kinstler; Lori K. and Tracy McIntyre II; grandchildren Adelaide “Little Addie” Kinstler, Danny Kinstler, David, Michael, James, and Jill McIntyre and four great-grandchildren. Per her wishes, she has been cremated and her ashes will be spread over Wassaw Sound to join those of her beloved husband. Go now in peace and may the spirit of love surround you. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Savannah and the Humane Society of Savannah. Memorial Service: 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive.
