Diane Gentles

On Thursday, January 17, 2013, Diane Cook-Gentles, entered into eternal rest. Diane, 57, of Savannah, Georgia was born on February 18, 1955, at Harlem Hospital in Harlem, New York to George Cook, Sr. and Birdie Gordon Cook, who both preceded her in death. As a youth, Diane eventually moved to Bronx, New York, where she spent most of her adult life. With her warm heart and charismatic personality, she won the hearts of many on University Avenue. Diane's compassion, thoughtfullness, along with her bedroom eyes, dimples and award winning smile had her wearing many hats. She was educated in the Bronx public school system. She later decided to persue a passion for hair and attended Wilford Academy. Wanting and needing to add to her work portfolio, as her heart grew bigger, led her into caring for the elderly, sending her back to school to achieve the mission. While fulfilling her mission as a home health nurse, she received the news of her father's accident. She made a life decision to move to Savannah, Georgia in 2003 to care for him. This was a very humanitarian move for her, for it involved her loving devotion to her father and her love of helping others. She took on this task with great honor and benevolence for many years. While residing in Savannah, she joined St. Luke Baptist Church, alongside her father, Deacon, George Cook, Sr. under the leadership of Pastor Lexcie E. Aikens. Diane continued to demostrate her strong compassion of caring for people throughout the years until she became sick and passed away at St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness. She leaves to cherish her loving spirit and memories: three children, Kendall Cook, Savannah, GA, LaKeshia Radcliff, Bronx, NY, Brittany Radcliff, Savannah, GA; Luger (dog); four grandchildren, Brianne, Kimora, Shiavre and Aiden; sister, Joan Cook, Ashland, VA; two brothers, George Cook (Tonia), Savannah, GA and Rashea Cook (Tamisha), Killeen, TX; Mother Clarise Roberts; five nephews, Monty, Michael, Jasiah, Aaryn-Mikai, and Jonathan; niece, Terrika; three uncles, Joe Cook, Sam Cook, and Pastor Douglas Cook, Sr., all of Miami, FL; one aunt, Annie Lou Daniels, Bronx, NY; special friend and second father, Mr. Eddie Rogers; like a daughter, Kimberley Dantzler; and a host of cousins and loving friends. Visitation: 7-8 p.m., Friday in the Chapel. Funeral service for Diane Cook Gentles will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 418 West 38th Street. Interment: Woodville Cemetery. Reposing at the church Saturday 8 a.m., until hour of service.
